INK BELNDING THE FLOWERS

Instead of starting over, I keep working with it, and I actually end up liking the finished flowers even more than my original idea. I corrected my mistake with Ohuhu Nahuku Acrylic Markers. Watch the video above how I did it.

ADDING COLOR TO THE LEAVES

For the leaves, I keep the palette warm without adding the cooler color contrast. I blend Lemongrass as the lighter shade and Green Tea as the darker shade. At the end, I return to Catching Rays to touch up the flower centers before die-cutting the finished floral images.

CREATING THE DIE-CUT BACKGROUND

For the background, I die-cut a frame using the Whimsical Scalloped Frames. I take the white cardstock left over from the center and run it through my die-cut machine again using the Charming Flora Cover Die. I also create one full die-cut with the same cover die. These pieces create the layered white background behind the colorful florals.

ADDING THE SENTIMENT

For the sentiment, I use the Thanks and Hugs Die Set. I die-cut the sentiment from Altenew Dazzling Diamond Cardstock and vellum, then adhere the layers together with liquid adhesive.

The scalloped frame is attached to the card front with foam adhesive, followed by the floral die cuts with smaller foam squares. Finally, I add a few clear sequins.

STAMPING AND STENCILING

For the second layer, I turned the stencil and added Picked Raspberry to the larger flowers and Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink to the smaller ones.

Next I moved on to the leaves and flower centers with the other stencil. For these areas I used Black Soot, Hickory Smoke and Old Paper Distress Oxide Inks, then finished the flower centers with Black Soot as well.

STAMPING AND DIE CUTTING

Once all the ink blending was finished, I placed the cardstock back into my MISTI. I had kept the stamp in exactly the same position, so I could stamp the images once again with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink. This brought back the crisp outlines beautifully after all the ink blending.

After heat setting the ink, I used the coordinating Peony Corners Die Set and ran both images through my Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.

HOT FOILED SENTIMENT

For the sentiment I used the Essential Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set. I really love this set because with just one foiling and one die-cutting step, you can create a whole bunch of beautiful sentiments at once. Such a time saver!

I used the satin gold foil from the Satin Metallics Variety Pack, then die cut all the sentiments so I could choose the one that worked best with my card.

PUTTING THE CARD TOGETHER

For the card base, I paired a warm yellowish olive cardstock with a brighter pink cardstock. I really love how these colors work with the peachy pink flowers. They already give me a tiny bit of an autumn feeling, and you know how much I love that season!

I adhered the Peony Corners with 3D foam squares to give the card some dimension. Then I added the hot foiled sentiment on top, raising it a little higher so it would stand out nicely between the flowers.



Finally, I added a few clear sequins for a little extra sparkle, and the card was finished. I absolutely love how these colors turned out together! Creating the foiled floral image

I have to be honest, I was a little scared of the BetterPress system at first. I thought it would be complicated or fussy, but now I think I’m officially in love. I started with the Lush Peony Bouquet Press + Hot Foil Plate.

You can use this plate in different ways. If you have the Glimmer Hot Foil System, you can foil with it. If you have the BetterPress system, you can use it with ink for that beautiful pressed look.

For today’s card, I wanted to keep the process simple and quick, so I decided to foil the image with black foil.

Bold rainbow floral version

For the first version, I wanted a stronger, more vibrant rainbow look. I placed the first stencil over the foiled image and blended three Catherine Pooler ink colors through it:

• Pucker Up
• Cummerbund
• Limoncello

I let the colors overlap a little while blending, and this created such a pretty rainbow effect on the flowers.

For the leaves, I used:

• Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink
• Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink

I really liked adding a little color twist to the leaves instead of using only green. It makes the whole card feel more playful and fresh.

Soft pastel rainbow version

For the second version, I wanted to show the same idea in a softer way. If you prefer a gentle pastel look, I think Distress Oxide inks are perfect for this technique.

For the base layer, I used:

• Kitsch Flamingo
• Salvaged Patina
• Squeezed Lemonade

These colors blend together so beautifully and create a soft rainbow effect without looking too strong.

Then I placed the next stencil layer on top to add the shadows and details. For this deeper layer, I used similar but stronger shades:

• Picked Raspberry
• Peacock Feathers
• Mustard Seed

For the leaves, I wanted a lighter result, so I used:

• Twisted Citron
• Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink

Adding some details

At this point, the flowers already looked beautiful, but I wanted to add a few extra handmade details. So I used a white pencil and pigment pen to add a bit of light here and there on the flowers and leaves. 

I also added some black splatters, because I love how black splatters make a floral card feel a little more artsy and playful.

Creating the card background

For the background, I used a die cut panel made with the Charming Flora Cover Die. I also had some watercolor panels on my desk from one of my morning creative sessions, so I used one of them here.

For the sentiment, I decided to use a gold foiled sentiment on white cardstock made with Classic Sentiments because it added a soft and elegant touch to the colorful flowers.

Then I added a few sequins to make the card glow a little.

First cards from the release: the blue floral trio

For these cards, I used the Floral Trio Die Set, the Floral Trio Press + Hot Foil Plate, and the Charming Flora Cover Die. I also used sentiments from Classic Sentiments and Essential Sentiments, which work so beautifully across the whole collection. 

The white flower card was made from Neenah Solar White cardstock and blended with Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide Ink, and Peacock Feathers. I really love how fresh and airy that color feels on the white petals.

For the background, I used the Charming Flora Cover Die with Mermaid soft turquoise cardstock. It adds that lovely detailed texture without stealing the show from the flowers, which I always appreciate in a good cover die. 

The foiled blue flower was made with the Floral Trio Press + Hot Foil Plate on a light blue watercolor card panel I made earlier this year. I hot foiled it with gold foil through my Glimmer Hot Foil machine. Then added color with Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Inks through the coordinating stencil. 

Those lovely leaves I also made from a lime green watercolored cardstock. Some leaves are diecut with the Floral Trio Die and others with  the Fantasy Flowers die-set. The leaves give such a fresh pop to the card. As a final touch I added highlights with white and gold pigment pen.

The die cut blue flowers were cut from a pre-painted blue watercolor panel I had made earlier while just relaxing and playing with color. I do this often to wind down, at the end of my day, and save them for later. They always turn into something beautiful later. On the top flowers I just run through with a bit of inkblending with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink to add a bit of color shift to the entire look.

For the pink floral version, I used Picked Raspberry and Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Ink, and I foiled that one with black foil. I really liked the stronger contrast there. Same flowers, same collection, but such a different mood.

Okay now let’s talk about Lush Peony Bouquet. Honestly, it is one of my favorite press plate designs this year.

I made a lot of inspiration with it, I can’t wait to show you! Next week, I’ll also have a video coming with it, if you are super curious, you can already see it on the Lush Peony Bouquet product page. But as a teaser here is a card that did not make it into the upcoming tutorial, but I thought I will give it a chance to shine on the blog.

But if you spotted that colorful floral card in the corner, consider this your little teaser. More is coming very soon.

For this project, I used the Floral Trio Press + Hot Foil Plate & Stencil Bundle on a watercolor panel. I just blended black shoot distress and peacock feathers oxide ink through the stencil, and as a final touch I made some pencil work, with purple and pink pencils. As a final touch I had to add white pen to give a bit of glow to the peonies. :) 

Sentiments I used

The sentiments on all of these cards are from Classic Sentiments and Essential Sentiments by Alex Syberia Designs. These are the sentiments you will see on my Instagram a lot. Because it is sooo easy to use. You foil or ink through betterpress system an entire card panel with one “swoosh”, then diecut all the sentiments with one diecutting and that’s it! LOVE!
